Coinbase added Ripple’s dollar stablecoin RLUSD to Coinbase Exchange, Prime and its retail app on Oct. 28, giving customers in supported regions another dollar token to trade and move across three blockchain networks. Coinbase’s announcement said the listing also allows customers to convert U.S. dollars into RLUSD at a 1:1 rate.
Which Coinbase services and networks support RLUSD?
Customers can trade and manage RLUSD through Coinbase Exchange, Coinbase Prime and the retail app, with deposits and withdrawals available on the XRP Ledger, Base and Ethereum, according to Coinbase. The company said Ripple will provide liquidity on Base to support use of the stablecoin there.
Ripple’s announcement says customers can also convert other supported U.S. dollar-denominated stablecoins into RLUSD at a 1:1 rate. RLUSD launched in December 2024 and has surpassed $2.4 billion in market capitalization, Ripple said.
What access is still to come?
Coinbase Global Exchange customers are not included in the launch; Coinbase said their access will follow. That planned availability includes using RLUSD as collateral, but the companies did not give a date for either feature.
The current listing covers Coinbase’s retail and institutional platforms, while the Global Exchange expansion remains pending. Coinbase has not announced when it will make RLUSD available to those customers or when collateral use will begin.
What can customers do with RLUSD now?
At launch, eligible customers can trade, manage, deposit and withdraw RLUSD through the supported services and networks. Ripple says the token is redeemable for U.S. dollars and backed by reserves including dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries and other cash equivalents.
The immediate next step is Coinbase’s planned Global Exchange availability, including collateral use; the companies have yet to set a date.
