Ripple said the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency gave final approval on Oct. 26 to Ripple National Trust Bank, adding federal supervision for RLUSD’s reserves and a path to fiduciary digital asset custody. The company announced the decision in its Oct. 26 statement; The Block also reported the approval.
What will the trust bank do for RLUSD?
Ripple says the bank is authorized to manage RLUSD’s segregated reserves, act as collateral trustee for those reserves on behalf of holders, and provide fiduciary digital asset custody. The bank’s custody services will be available upon opening, according to Ripple.
RLUSD will continue to be issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, Ripple’s limited-purpose trust company regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services. Ripple says the national trust bank adds OCC supervision to the framework around RLUSD; it does not replace the New York issuer.
What changed since Ripple’s conditional approval?
The final approval follows the OCC’s conditional approval of Ripple National Trust Bank on Dec. 12, 2025. The Block reported that Ripple filed its initial application in July 2025. Its report said the trust bank charter does not permit deposit-taking or lending.
Ripple says the approved business plan also covers custody services for institutions. It did not give an opening date in its announcement. The company said it will continue working with the OCC, New York regulators and others as the bank begins operations.
